CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS SPEEDS DSL INSTALL TIME, REDUCES COSTS WITH SMART LINE CARD™ FEATURE SET Centillium Introduces Integrated Line Probing, the First Feature FREMONT, Calif.,
April 11, 2001 - Centillium Communications, Inc. [NASDAQ: CTLM], innovator of broadband communications technology, today unveiled its groundbreaking Smart Line Card (SLC) feature set. The SLC feature set enables carriers to speed DSL deployment by pre-qualifying lines and eliminating provisioning costs thereby making DSL as easy as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) to deploy. The first feature from the SLC initiative, Single Ended Line Probing (SELP) technology, is available today.
"Centillium's Smart Line Card feature set is an innovative and exciting new direction in the DSL market," stated Katherine Bowen, research analyst with Cahners In-Stat Group. "Centillium is at the forefront of DSL technology, stepping up to enable capabilities carriers truly require to eliminate deployment issues and reduce costs. SELP offers a substantial cost savings and speedier installs, while still meeting the rigorous requirements defined by customer platform specifications."
As Centillium's partners integrate SLC features into next generation line cards, they will enable their customers to prequalify lines for DSL and to identify line impairments, bridged taps and load coils. The benefits of incorporating SELP into the chipset (and into the line card) are abundant with line testing and cost savings as the foremost advancements. Through the integration of SELP into its chipsets, Centillium enables carriers to pre-qualify lines, even before the sale of DSL to a customer. Pre-qualification of the line means the carrier can identify the bit rate capability of that line without sending a technician or requiring a termination at the customer site. Traditional SELP products are large, bulky devices. However, Centillium provides optimal space reduction by integrating SELP technology into its chipsets. Centillium's SELP speeds deployment and doesn't require CPE testing by technicians, making this solution easy, functional, and very flexible.
"Centillium has devoted its design endeavors to innovation and excellence," stated Dori Braun, vice president of marketing, Access Business Unit for Centillium. "We have certainly fulfilled these expectations with our SLC feature set and the introduction of SELP. SELP will eliminate or reduce the frequency of truck rolls, and most importantly, reduce the cost of existing equipment. We know that our customers, as well as the industry at large, will be excited about this technology and work with us to use the integrated DSL chipsets with SELP as a benchmark technology."
