SIEMENS SELECTS CENTILLIUM'S OCTAL MULTI-MODE ADSL CHIPSET FOR NEXT GENERATION DIGITAL LOOP CARRIER PLATFORM

Centillium and Siemens Partner in Offering Next-Generation Services to Carriers

FREMONT, Calif., February 20, 2001 - Centillium Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTLM), innovator of broadband communications technology, today announced that Siemens has selected its CopperFlite octal port multi-mode Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) chipset for deployment in its leading Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier (NGDLC), Accession™, which is designed to integrate narrowband and broadband services on a single shelf at the access point of the network.

"At least 30 percent of target ADSL subscribers are served by DLCs today, so it is imperative that companies such as Centillium and Siemens address the needs of this market," said Adam Guglielmo, DSL Analyst, TeleChoice, Inc. "We expect to see a very large percentage of new homes and businesses utilizing telecommunications services through DLCs or NGDLCs in the near future, so the importance of this technology for providing broadband services is underscored"

"In addition to the central office co-location deployment scheme, broadband access can be offered effectively using remote platforms such as DLCs," said Dori Braun, VP of Marketing, Access Business Unit at Centillium. "Our highly integrated, low-power, multi-mode ADSL chipset solution is optimized on services to bring substantial value for DLC platforms."

"Carriers are looking for practical solutions that help them make the most of their existing investment while developing plans for migration to new generation access platforms," said Derek Underwood, Director Broadband Access Product Management, Siemens Carrier Networks LLC. "Centillium's CopperFlite multi-mode chipset enables us to achieve industry leading port density and focus on value-add services offered by our Accession platform."

The octal-port CopperFlite chipset is fully pin-to-pin and software compatible with Centillium's quad-port CopperFlite solution and octal-port CopperLite™ solution. Each port can be individually configured to support industry standards, including annexes A, B, C, and H. The octal-port CopperFlite supports multiple Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs) for Voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) applications with quality of service support and channelized voice-over-DSL (CVoDSL) for transporting uncompressed toll-quality voice in conjunction with Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) traffic. As a result, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and data carriers can increase revenues by offering customers combined data and voice services.
