CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS WINS PRESTIGIOUS INFOVISION AWARD FOR ENTROPIA™ CHIP

Centillium Recognized by the International Engineering Consortium for Outstanding Achievement

FREMONT, Calif., October 9, 2001 - Centillium Communications, Inc. [Nasdaq: CTLM], innovator of broadband communications technology, today announced that the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) has selected the company for the prestigious InfoVision Award for superior technical achievement and innovation. The IEC is granting this award to Centillium because of its innovative Entropia chip for next generation Voice over Packet (VoP) applications.

"Centillium has made a commitment to develop solutions that will ease the proliferation of VoP technology in the end-market," stated Faraj Aalaei, CEO and co-founder for Centillium "The fact that Centillium has been selected for this honor reinforces our value system, that creativity and superiority are our number one priorities. We are proud of our accomplishments with our market-leading Entropia products and are committed to leading the VoP market."

IEC presents InfoVision Awards annually to technology companies, recognizing products based on their level of technical advancement, industry impact in their perspective sectors, and ease of adoption in the end-market. The awards, which were established in 1998, have been used as a call to the technology community to strive for innovation and excellence in developing new products for the communications market.

The awards will be presented during the National Communications Forum (NCF) 2001 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Chicago, IL on October 31, 2001. Additional information is available at http://www.iec.org/events/2001/ncf.

About the Entropia Chip
Centillium's Entropia Voice over Packet (VoP) system on a chip supports Voice over Asynchronous Transfer Mode (VoATM) using ATM Adaptation Layer Types 1 and 2 (AAL1 and AAL2), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and Voice over IP over AAL5. The Entropia chip leads the market with the highest integration, the richest feature set and the highest capacities. It is capable of processing 336 real time voice channels of either Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) or Adaptive Differential PCM (ADPCM) on a single chip.

The highly integrated Entropia chip combines hardware, firmware and feature-rich software to deliver a complete high density, low power packet voice capability in a single small form-factor device. The Entropia chip includes a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and software for voice processing, which includes compression, echo cancellation, tone detection and generation, announcements, fax/modem data detection and signaling support. The network processor, which is also integrated on the chip, includes AAL1, AAL2, AAL5 and IP processing. The chip comes with a very advanced system level host Application Programming Interface (API) software in C code and handles many compression algorithms, including G.711, G.726, G.728 and G.729A/B.
