CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS ACHIEVES THE IMPOSSIBLE BY INTRODUCING WORLD'S FIRST TRANSFORMERLESS ADSL CHIPSET SOLUTION

New CopperConnect™ Platform Breaks the Density Barrier

FREMONT, Calif., October 22, 2001 - Centillium Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTLM), innovator of broadband communications technology, today introduced a miraculous new chip design that performs at an increased rate of efficiency. CopperConnect is an innovative approach to the DSL Line Interface Unit (LIU) design that eliminates external filters, the line driver and the transformer (also known as a hybrid). This groundbreaking design features the world's first single-chip LIU, which simplifies the system design and accelerates the time to market of the DSL line card.

By using the CopperConnect LIU, Centillium's customers can design line cards for digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs) that are much higher in density than the traditional transformer-based line cards. The CopperConnect LIU makes possible port density increases up to 50%. Another benefit for Centillium's customers is the ability to manufacture line cards at a lower cost by reducing the number of components on a DSL line card by as much as 50%. This reduction significantly improves the testability, manufacturing line card yield, and reliability of line cards.

"The work done by Centillium scientists to create such an innovative, cost-saving and technically advanced chip is truly state-of-the-art," said Shahin Hedayat, president and co-founder of Centillium Communications, Inc. "With this design in place, our customers can deliver the most efficient, cost-effective and highest performance line cards in the industry."
