TOTTORI SANYO AND CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS PARTNER TO DEPLOY ADSL ROUTERS TO JAPAN Tottori SANYO and Centillium To Deliver Cutting-Edge Technology for Home Networks Based on 802.11b Specifications FREMONT, Calif.,
November 26, 2001 - Centillium Communications, Inc. [NASDAQ: CTLM], innovator of broadband communications technology, today announced a partnership with Tottori SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. to provide high-performance customer premises equipment (CPE) to the Japanese broadband market. Tottori SANYO, one of the largest brand names in Japan's consumer market, will integrate Centillium's high-performance, Universal Optimizer™ Universal Serial Bus (USB) chipset solution for a Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity into its WLN-AP2 and WLN-AP3 modems.
The modems, which operate on multiple Linux Operating Systems (OS), have the flexibility to be configured either for a wireless Local Area Network (LAN), based on 802.11b specifications, or for a wired LAN for Ethernet. The WLN-AP2 is a stand-alone USB ADSL modem, while the WLN-AP3 offers a built-in ADSL modem. By integrating Centillium's Optimizer chipsets into the modems, Tottori SANYO can offer the end users "plug and play" options and ease of use characteristics. The Universal Optimizer supports either Annex A or Annex C operations, based on the choice of software drivers, and is fully compliant with all industry standards.
"Working with the innovator of ADSL technology in Japan demonstrates our leadership in Japan's growing broadband market and ensures interoperability throughout the networks in Japan," stated Makoto Nojima, Manager, Tottori SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. "By offering next generation routers such as our WLN-AP2 and WLN-AP3 with Centillium's ADSL technology to our customers, we are able to fulfill the growing demand for high-speed Internet connectivity."
"We are very excited to be working with Tottori SANYO in providing state of the art ADSL technology to consumers in Japan," said Dori Braun, vice president of the Access Business Unit for Centillium Communications, Inc. "The combination of ADSL and a wireless LAN or wired LAN in a single router brings convenience and ease of use to all of Tottori SANYO's customers."
