CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS JOINS INDUSTRY LEADERS IN DRIVING AUTO-CONFIGURING DSL MODEMS Centillium Communications Promotes Industry Standard for True Plug-and-Play DSL Modems through OpenDSL Membership FREMONT, Calif.,
September 18, 2000 - Centillium Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTLM), innovator of broadband communications technology, today announced it's support for the OpenDSL industry initiative for plug-n-play Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). The OpenDSL initiative is building a standard for auto-configurable CPE, pre-certification testing, and simplification of installation.
OpenDSL is an industry-wide initiative to develop an open plug-n-play architecture for retail-grade CPE interoperability and automated configuration to eliminate truck rolls. OpenDSL is about enabling rapid mass-market penetration of DSL services. Subscribers should be able to purchase any DSL unit at a retail store and set it up themselves. The service provider could then concentrate its efforts on building out central office (CO) facilities to more rapidly spread DSL services worldwide.
"We're very excited about participating in the OpenDSL initiative," said Dori Braun, director of CPE, Centillium Communications, Inc. "Centillium's goals of making DSL a mass market reality through cost-effective, interoperable, plug-n-play CPE match closely with the OpenDSL mission."
The OpenDSL initiative has received endorsement from the DSL Forum and includes DSL industry leaders interested in promoting mass-market availability of broadband services. Addition information is available at www.opendsl.org.
