INTERSPEED USES CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATION'S INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS TO OFFER ADSL TO ITS CUSTOMERS Interspeed Integrates Centillium's CopperLiteú Turbo Chipsets Into Its EdgeSpeedú Access Routers FREMONT, Calif.,
June 28, 2000 - Interspeed, Inc. (Nasdaq: ISPD), a leading provider of digital subscriber line (DSL) access solutions, announced today that it has selected Centillium Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTLM) as provider of chipset solutions for integration of the asymmetric DSL standard (ADSL), G.lite into its EdgeSpeedú access routers. Earlier this month, Interspeed introduced a 24-port, G.lite (ADSL) line module and a new high-density, 19-inch chassis called the EdgeSpeed 800 access router.
Interspeed's new EdgeSpeed G.lite line module is fully compliant with the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) G.992.2 (G.lite) standard, providing data rates up to 512Kbps upstream and up to 1.5Mbps downstream, or up to 3.0Mbps downstream in turbo mode. At 1.5Mbps downstream this gives subscribers a 25-times boost in performance over typical 56K analog modems. G.lite also simplifies the installation and provisioning of DSL circuits, and is especially useful in campus-wide and multi-tenant unit (MTU) deployments (e.g. hotels, office parks, universities, retail malls) because it supports cost-effective high-speed broadband Internet services simultaneously with single-line analog voice service. EdgeSpeed G.lite line modules are compatible with the EdgeSpeed 500, 800 and 1000 chassis.
"Through Centillium's innovative new technology, we can initially deliver a high density, low power 1.5Mbps G.lite solution to our customers that can be upgraded to support the faster turbo mode, 3.0Mbps downstream data rates," said Kenneth Osowski, marketing vice president of Interspeed, Inc. "These benefits allow our customers to maximize profits while minimizing costs, and are key elements to their successful mass-market deployment of ADSL."
The EdgeSpeed 800 is designed for use in any Central Office (CO), Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) data center or in-building premises requiring high port densities in a standard 19" rack mount chassis. The chassis supports two system modules and up to 10 line modules, a fan tray assembly, and either -48VDC input power or optional AC power.
