CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS APPOINTS DARREL SLACK AS CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

FREMONT, Calif., January 4, 2002 - Centillium Communications, Inc. [Nasdaq: CTLM], innovator of broadband communications technology, today announced the appointment of Darrel Slack as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Slack will continue to report to Faraj Aalaei, Centillium’s Chief Executive Officer.

“During Mr. Slack’s first nineteen months with Centillium he has impacted the Company significantly,” said Mr. Aalaei. “He directed Centillium’s strategic business development efforts, resulting in the successful completion of two acquisitions. Mr. Slack has also made significant contributions in the areas of product development and strategic partnership establishment. During his four-month tenure as Interim CFO, he has demonstrated significant leadership skills and financial savvy by leading the organization through an aggressive expense reduction initiative. We are delighted to have someone of his caliber in the role of CFO.”

Mr. Slack, 38, has served as Centillium’s Interim CFO since September 2001; he joined Centillium in May 2000 as Director of Business Development. Before joining Centillium, Mr. Slack worked as an investment banker with Credit Suisse First Boston serving clients in the communications semiconductor industry. Prior to CSFB, Mr. Slack worked as an investment banker with Salomon Smith Barney in the general technology practice.

Mr. Slack’s solid integrity was honed by ten years as a U.S. Air Force officer and pilot. Mr. Slack earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the U.S. Air Force Academy and an MBA from Stanford University.
