CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS OFFERS WORLDS’ FIRST ADSL SECURE ROUTER ON A CHIP

Palladia™ Family of ADSL Secure Routers Brings Cost-Effective Secure Broadband Access to the Masses

FREMONT, Calif., January 21, 2002 - Centillium Communications, Inc. [NASDAQ: CTLM], innovator of broadband communications technology, today announced availability of the industry’s first asymmetric DSL (ADSL) secure router chipset. With the availability of Centillium’s Palladia family of secure router chipsets, service providers can now offer their customers secure ADSL services. By offering a cost effective product to consumers, service providers can significantly expand their market, reaching more customers. The Palladia 100 router chipset and Palladia 200 router chipset are the first members of Centillium’s new product line, the Palladia chipset family, launched by Centillium to address the growing need for value-added network services, such as firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Centillium’s revolutionary design integrates the ADSL physical layer and network processor technology into one low cost, highly programmable powerful engine. The Palladia 100 router chipset, the first of Centillium’s Palladia family, is the most cost-effective ADSL router product targeting the residential market. The Palladia 100 router chipset integrates an Ethernet port and a Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. The Palladia 200 router chipset is a high-performance product geared towards the high-end residential ADSL market, which requires a more powerful router engine with more applications such as wireless home networking.

Each of the Palladia chipsets has the option to include the industry-proven Centillium software suite for bridging/routing, firewall, Internet Protocol-Virtual Private Network (IP-VPN), and other high-end security services with the product. The Centillium software suite is fully tested against International Computer Security Association (ICSA) firewall and VPN certification criteria and is interoperable with all major security and DSL equipment manufacturers. The unique benefit of this option is that Centillium’s customers may also take advantage of the open architecture to port their own existing software.

“In order for service providers to reach the masses, an extremely affordable premises networking product must be made available to the consumer market,” said Faraj Aalaei, chief executive officer and co-founder of Centillium Communications, Inc. “Since the Palladia SecureDSL chipsets integrate firewall and security features, the consumer is protected from security breaches that are prevalent with an ‘always on’ broadband connection.”

“As the DSL market matures, service providers are pursuing value-added services such as VPN, firewall, home networking and wireless networking support. Products like Centillium's Palladia chipset family, which enables new generations of home router CPE at attractive price points, are well positioned to take advantage of this growing market,” said Pat Hurley, DSL Analyst for TeleChoice, Inc. “Value-added services are the key to service provider profitability, and demand for home networking-capable CPE should balloon during the next few years.”
