CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS PARTNERS WITH SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES TO BRING SECUREDSL TO JAPAN

Sumitomo Electric to Utilize Centillium’s Innovative Palladia™ Router Chipset In Its MegaBit Gear Customer Premises Equipment

FREMONT, Calif., April 22, 2002 - FREMONT, Calif., April 22, 2002 — Centillium Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTLM), innovator of broadband communications technology, today announced a partnership with Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI) to provide SecureDSL technology to carriers in Japan. SEI will integrate Centillium’s Palladia Router chipset technology into its MegaBit Gear series of DSL modems. This combination of products will enable carriers in Japan to offer DSL, security and home networking to consumers through a single piece of customer premises equipment (CPE).

Centillium’s Palladia SecureDSL family provides a range of products for the home networking market from entry-level bridge/router technology to DSL routers with wireless capability and security functions. The Palladia Router chipset’s revolutionary design integrates Centillium’s market proven Asymmetric DSL (ADSL) physical layer with a high performance network processor and an Ethernet interface into an integrated two-chip product.

SEI’s MegaBit Gear equipment is the most widely deployed ADSL equipment in Japan’s broadband access networks. SEI will continue to enhance the capabilities of its MegaBit Gear product line by using Centillium’s Palladia Router chipset. “Consumers in Japan’s broadband communications market are seeking value added services such as security and home networking in their DSL access equipment,” said Yoshikazu Nishiwaki, general manager, sales and marketing, Network Systems Division, Sumitomo Electric Industries. “With the Palladia chipset’s scaleable architecture, we are able to offer a range of premises networking technology from bridge and router products to innovative SecureDSL home networking equipment.”

“Centillium is highly committed to working with SEI to bring DSL to the masses in Japan,” said Dori Braun, vice president of marketing, Access Business Unit for Centillium Communications. “By utilizing SEI’s industry leading MegaBit Gear for CPE with the Palladia chipset, carriers are now able to offer a secure, integrated, easy-to-use home networking product to the consumer market.”

About Sumitomo Electric Industries
With offices located around the globe, SEI is recognized as one of the pioneers in xDSL technology development. In early 1995, SEI commenced R&D; activities on xDSL equipment ahead of any other Japanese company and in December 1997 began shipping the first Japanese produced in-house ADSL equipment for wide-area LANs. With its early entry into market, the company has been able to accumulate a wealth of technology and deployment experience. SEI's xDSL products, including the current models (MegaBit Gear CU/2, and CU/3 and CU4000 Series), have been widely adopted by various telecommunications companies in Japan and abroad. To date SEI has shipped over 1,000,000 lines worth of xDSL equipment, thereby earning itself the top spot among Japanese manufacturers.
