CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS CRUSHES CURRENT DSL PERFORMANCE, POWER AND SPACE LIMITS WITH THE IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY OF THE COPPERFLITE™ LX CENTRAL OFFICE CHIPSET New CopperFlite CO Chipset Consumes the Smallest Amount of Real Estate per Port in the Industry While Extending Rates to 12 Mbps FREMONT, Calif.,
July 22, 2002 - Centillium Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTLM), innovator of broadband communications technology, today announces the immediate availability of the newest member of its CopperFlite Central Office (CO) chipset family: the CopperFlite LX chipset. The CopperFlite LX chipset offers an unprecedented savings in real estate while significantly reducing power consumption on a per-port basis. All of Centillium’s CopperFlite chipsets, including the new CopperFlite LX chipset, incorporate the eXtremeDSL™ features, such as eXtremeRate™ and eXtremeReach™. Centillium’s eXtremeRate feature now allows carriers to offer rates up to 12 Mbps to consumers while eXtremeReach increases their potential service area by more than 50%.
The CopperFlite LX chipset is comprised of two chips that together consume less than one square inch per port – the smallest in the industry! This chipset offers flexibility to equipment manufacturers by introducing two packaging options. For ease of migration of existing designs, the CopperFlite LX chipset offers packaging compatibility with previous CopperFlite chipset generations; but for maximum real estate savings the CopperFlite LX is offered in a smaller package – enabling equipment manufacturers to reduce per port board space by more than 30%.
Centillium’s industry proven CO chipset technology allows equipment manufacturers to design densely integrated voice-and-data cards as well as data-only line cards due to the optimization of power and real estate. The CopperFlite LX consumes less than 340 mW per port. This decrease in power usage enables carriers to see a dramatic cost savings, which can be passed down to consumers.
“Service providers know their livelihood depends upon economizing power, floor space and downtime balanced by a need to continuously increase rate, performance, and reach,” said Dori Braun, vice president of marketing, Access Business Unit for Centillium Communications. “With the accelerating demand for ADSL, service providers need the best equipment to remain leaders in the broadband communications industry. We give our customers the technology to meet that challenge.”
